Essay: My Philosophy of Education
(was written for Soph.Field Experience)

" The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance" Socrates
My philosophy is that an educator is the most valuable resource
our country has. Of all the jobs or careers in this world none of them
would be possible without teachers. There are two main points to my
philosophy, : why teachers are important and who teachers are.
Hopefully reading my philosophy will give you a better understanding
of the importance of educators in this world.
Teachers are very important in our society, because we need them
to provide our youth with the knowledge and social experiences, they
will need to improve their future and the future of the entire planet.
Teachers are more than just people who relay information about a
certain subject. Classroom teachers especially in the early years are
the people that those students will see most throughout the course of
the day and will learn social skills and manners from. I feel that teachers
are role models whether they want to be or not ; it comes with the job.
As a teacher I hope and believe I will be able to influence many
lives and help students understand what education can do for them
and their future. I can recall one teacher from high school, who actually
talked about college and our degree. What we would need to do to be
better prepared for college. Mr.Shuper was my tenth grade
mathematics teacher. He had been a university professor at John
Franco State University in the Ukraine for nearly 30 years, before
he decided to teach at my school. He brought a college - like
atmosphere into our classroom, which helped us, prepare for the way
things would be in college. "We do not need a degree as more than
to be educated" he said. His example: like a red ribbon floating through
my life. This is just a small example of what teachers are to educate
students on more than just books or academics but on life.
The first and most important reason that I want to become an
educator is because of my love for children. I cherish the thought of
being involved in a child's learning process. I think that my classroom
will have a mixture of the philosophy of idealism and pragmatism. I
want to be very knowledgeable in my area of teaching, and I love the
idea of teaching what I know to my students. My students are going
to challenge themselves as learners. Any problems that arise in my
classroom will be handled by me and the student in an appropriate
manner. I also want to engage learning by using first-hand activities.
Reading , writing, and arithmetic will be emphasized greatly in my
classroom. I want the class to help establish the rules in a democratic
fashion, so they will better understand what is wrong because they
helped to decide the rules.
I have explained my philosophy and why I feel that teachers are
the most important people in our society and who teachers are.

Presentation was written for COMM 1402 Speech Communication class
Development of the Ukrainian Alphabet,as well as Slovenic.
For Ukrainians, their alphabet means and has always meant
much more than a system of written symbols. The Ukrainian alphabet
is a national treasure, a subject of national pride, and owes its origins to
two 9th century Saints, Cyril and Methodius, who were Christian
missionaries from Byzantium, Cyril and Methodius developed the
writing system for many Slavic nations. At present Slavic people are
found in the Ukraine, Belarus, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovakia,
Croatia, Serbia, Bulgaria, Macedonia and, of course, Russia. Many
beautiful monuments dedicated to Sts. Cyril and Methodius can be
found in most Slavic countries. There is also a special state and
religious holiday, the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture, celebrated
on January 6 in Ukraine, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and other
Slavic countries as well as in Russia on May 24.
The purpose of my presentation is to give a brief history of the
development of the Cyrillic alphabet from the initial period of its
existence to the present day, and to show how the orthography
changed from earlier times to the present.
The origin of the Cyrillic writing system goes back to the ninth
century. There were two centers of Christianity in those times: Western,
represented by the Roman Empire; and Eastern represented by the
Byzantine Empire, the center of Orthodoxy. Both empires sent their
representatives to spread the teachings of Christianity among the Slavic
peoples who still adhered to polytheistic religions. But those attempts
were not successful because the Slavic population did not understand
Latin (the sacred language of Western Christianity) or Greek (the
language of Eastern Christianity). The Ukrainians, the Poles, the
Russians, and other Slavic peoples spoke a basic Slavonic language
that was distinguished by different dialects but was understandable
to some extent by all Slavs. The Slavonic written language did not
appear until the ninth century. The first Slavonic alphabet was
developed deliberately by Cyril (thus the name Cyrillic) to translate
the Bible and other sacred and devotional works into the Slavonic
language. In about 863, Prince Rostislav, the ruler of Great Moravia
(an area including much of what is now the Czech Republic, Slovakia,
and parts of Slovenia and Hungary), asked the Byzantine emperor
for missionaries who would teach his people in their own Slavonic
tongue. He had western priests, but they used only Latin. The
emperor of Byzantium,Michael III, and the Patriarch Photius sent
two brothers, Cyril (about 827-869) and Methodius (815-885),
to carry out this task. In anonymous biographer wrote that Cyril,
(more precisely Constantine, his given name, before he entered the
monastery) and his brother Methodius descended from a noble
family in Macedonia, in the Greek city of Thessalonica (in Slavonic,
Solun). The population of the area was predominantly Slavic.
Moreover, since their father was Greek and their mother was
Bulgarian, the brothers knew both the Greek and Slavonic
languages well. They both entered the priesthood. Cyril was
a talented poet and accomplished polyglot: he knew Slavonic,
Greek, Latin, Arabic, and Hebrew. He became a professor
of philosophy at the imperial school in Constantinopole, the
capital of Byzantium, and librarian at the cathedral of of Saint
Sophia. Methodius became governor of a district that had been
settled by Slavs. Both brothers then retired to monastic life.
The Byzantine empire subsequently used them as missionary
priests. Because they embarked on religious missions to Khazaria,
Syria, the Crimea to preach the Christian faith. Cyril and
Methodius were the best candidates to fulfill the request of
the Moravian Prince Rostislav.
The great outcome of their Moravian Mission was the
invention of the Slavonic writing system known as the Cyrillic
Alphabet. The two brothers translated the Liturgy and much
of the scriptures into written Slavonic. After this, Christianity
in its eastern form began to spread rapidly among the Slavs.
As philosophers and religious leaders, Cyril and Methodius
protested against the trilingual dogma declared by the western
church which insisted on the use of only three languages -
Hebrew, Greek, and Latin. They rejected this dogma with
strong arguments: " If God sends sunlight, air and rain to all
peoples, this is to testify that God loves all peoples in the same
way. Why do you think then that God wants to be praised
only in the languages of three peoples?"
Cyril and Methodius took the Greek alphabet and adapted
it to the sounds and expressions of the Slavonic language and
developed an alphabet for church purposes called glagolitic.
This became more refined in the 10th century among the
Slavs and is called Old Church Slavonic or Cyrillic. This
alphabet is used in liturgical books to this day in the Orthodox
Churches.
The civil alphabet, adopted in 1918 in Russia was based
on the Old Church Slavonic alphabet and is used today in
several slavonic languages. In the Ukrainian alphabet there
are 32 letters, among them 6 vowels and 26 consonants.
The simplification of the 1918 alphabet and spelling had
great importance for the spread of literacy and culture. The
Slavic nations appreciate the great importance of the
contributions of Cyril and Methodius to the development of
their written languages, cultures, and national identities.
After their death, the apostles to the Slavs were canonized
by the western and eastern churches. In 1981, Pope John
Paul II declared them joint patrons of Europe with Saint Benedict.

WEBSITE RESEARCH FOR TEACHERS and PARENTS was written

http://www.UpToTen.com

I have reviewed the UpToTen.com Web site that I believe and
advise for teachers as well as for parents. Up To Ten has been found
in 1997 and is completely independent and still owned and run by
the company's founders. This Web site a major on-line destination
for children and their parents. UpToTen is a free site to the best
basic computer skills. UpToTen is user friendly, has a lot of
educational, cool games, that stimulate the children to get in gear
and truly helps them to understand the various concepts that are
a part of the Program.
UpToTen has a team based in Mauritius ( a small tropical island
in the Indian ocean ), because far from the stresses of city life.
The Mauritius team is in charge of the site itself: creation, artistic
development, technical development, building the UpToTen kids
games, updating UpToTen Parents and client support. UpToTen
in partnership with Rack-space inc., runs a dedicated sever cluster
from San Antonio, TX. Also UpToTen is connected right to the
Internet for the best service. In October, 2003, signs an exclusive
deal for France " to provide content to Wanado ( French ISP with
a 60% national market share)".

I can trust the accuracy of this site. UpToTen - a multicultural
mix of artists, technicians and educators. Web site UpToTen has
a great - appeal to teachers, parents, children. Using computers to
learn is a powerful complimentary to expression, comprehension,
self-esteem, enhance learning. UpToTen activities, games, coloring,
animated cards, songs and much more are appropriate for Pre-K - 5.
I reviewed the Teachers-related stories and the Scott Marrick
from the city of Nashville, TN has noticed:" I have been using UpTo
Ten in my computer since 2000", "Amazing. Thanks,UpToTen!"
Media technology is an integral part of children's lives in twenty-
first century. The world of electronic media, however is changing
dramatically. Television, until recently the dominant media source,
has been joined by cell phones, iPods, vidio games, and e-mail.
School and teachers should integrate research-based programs
that use electronic media to enhance classroom curricula and teach
students how to use electronic media constructively. Teachers
should also receive training in the uses of new technologies and in
how to manage the private use of electronic media in schools to
decrease a distraction, bullying and cheating.
UpToTen are important site of our everyday lives. In order to
be ready for today's world and tomorrow's,an early introduction to
computers is essential for our children. The earlier the better giving
them access to a UpToTen, will give them a significant head start in
their future education.
Children will remember what they learn throgh multimedia more
easily- animations, sounds and interactivity are highly memorable.

NETS-S Standards 1,2,3,4. Special Area: Preschool,Level II

Grade level: Preschool

Subject: Science

Time : 2 lessons ( approximately 15-20 minutes each)

Purpose: The children will explore the plants, and will learn how to
plant seeds, what a plant needs to grow by participating in activities
and listening to stories, plaing the games during the lesson.

Description : Before starting do a KWL chart about plants. Gather a
small group of youngsters and ask them " What They know about
plants?" Record on KWL chart under "K" section. Ask children what
they wonder about plants? Record their answers on the KDL chart
under the "W" section. Tell the children they will be learning about
what plants are, what plants are used for, the parts of plants, and
what plants need in order to grow. Show the children a bean plant I
have planted several weeks before. Ask: "Can anyone tell me what
a seed is?" Answer: " A seed is apart of a plant that grow a new
plant". Ask children "If you plant a watermelon seed what will
develop or grow? If you plant a carrot seed what will develop or
grow?" If some children have incorrect answers, lead them towards
the correct answers. Tell them that in order or develop, the plant
needs three things: soil, water, and light. Explain that soil is dirt
with nutrients in it, kind of like vitamins. Student will be given a
signed plastic 8oz cup to scoop soil and drop 2 beans in a hole and
cover the bean with the soil. Remind them that they just gave the
seed, the soil, and what else it needs to develop? Students will use
spray bottle of water to moisten soil. Now we have given the seed
soil and water, it needs one more thing to develop. Have the
children place their seed cup in lighted area. Ask the children to
make predictions as to how many days it will take for their seeds
to sprout or come out of the soil. Record answers on a chart. Keep
track of days on a grid by coloring in one square for each day until
the sprout begins to show. The children will observe the growth
of the seed through the software game, Wubb to remember the
steps of planting.

Activities :

First Lesson

- The children will observe the growth of the seed through the
week, game Garden shop .
- Use the printer to make the picture of parts flower.
- For children who have difficulty: Have another child help
them plant their seeds
(This could be children who have problems with fine motor
skills).
- For students who exel: Have them help another child plant
their seeds or play
game: Wubb . All children have chance to play this game.

Second Lesson

- The children will learn the purpose of plant, roots, leaves,
stem - observing actual plant roots,
leaves - compare sizes, stem - carries water to the flower.
- Tell the children, that today they will learn about plant
roots. Show them the "root" picture.
Explain to the children that the roots grow underground.
Ask them if they can point to the
roots on the picture, also some roots can be eaten, and
some cannot. Explain to them that
the roots hold the plant in place and take food and water to
the plant. Tell to the children the
roots take the water and nutrients from the soil and then it
goes into the stem. From the stem
it goes into the leaves and petals.
- Divide the class in two small groups.Group one - will compare
size of leaves ( Rose, Iris, Gladiolus) by using string, stripes
of paper to measure leaves.
Group two - will talk about the purpose of leaves, brings in light
and nutrients to plants, compare
leaves to roots for similarities and differences ( both take in water
and nutrients, roots support
plants, leaves absorb light).
- The children will use one computer per group (3-4) and group
one play flower pattern game
Plant Flowers Daffodil and Clifford . The other group - will send
an e-mail greeting card website,
then the group will change the place.

Tool and Resources :

Children will use the software games - " Wubb "," Plant flowers
with Daffodil and Clifford",
" Garden shop ",also using printer for the worksheet and e-mail
greeting card.

Assessment/Evaluation

The children will be able to answer questions about what a seed is and
what it needs to grow, conditions seeds need to grow ( light, soil, water ).
Teacher will use a check sheet to determine if the child can identify a
root and what purpose of a root is. Teacher will evaluate child's know-
ledge of the purpose of leaves and their ability to compare lengths using
the check list. As children are walking have them to symbolize a seed.
As you water them they begin to grow until their leaves or flowers
( their arms) bloom.

Blog 14Process Writing Final

Writing a paper on the writing process is pretty hard. The writing
process is different from one person to another. I came across
questions like "What exactly is the writing process?" and "Must you
follow one persons writing process if yours is different?" This is where
I came across the answer to my questions, write however I wish to
write. If one person likes free write first and another person likes to
write a draft first, let them do how they please.Writing process is a
logical sequence of steps. I'm trying to follow a pattern in getting
dressed each day, in baking a cake or in changing a flat tire. In the
same way, my writing should be the product of a logical process.
My success is to gather focus, order, drafts and revises. These are
the basic steps:prewriting, writing and rewriting. Why is a writing
process important? It can help me to organize thoughts, avoid
frustration, and procrastination and use my time productively.
...Nobody can learn a second language in a short time, it took me
many years of patience and believing in myself. Learning English
is a long and complicated process. It does not happen overnight.
Family responsibilities and children, I didn't give me the I needed.
However, making a schedule about how many hours I had available
to study the language was a good first step. Also being organized
and clear about what I want to learn first, writing, reading, listening
or speech.I kept in mind that studying vocabulary, and systematically
made the path easier. The writing process is something that I figured
out myself as I went through school.I personally think that is when
I went to school, tutoring, college, for so many years. Through the
years I found that some teachers forced you to write certain ways.
Before college, I would write assuming that the only reader,or
audience, would be my teacher. English writing would help me realize
the many steps that are involved in the writing process from free
writing, like my first draft, to making a final copy. In order to make
a good paper I need to organize my ideas. Also, realize what needs
to be in the essay and what doesn't.
I remember how I started and struggled in writing my first letters
then words first in native Ukrainian language, then English and
Russian. My English class and I have read a lot of books including
"Tom Sowyer"by Mark Twain, "Around the World in 80 days"
by Jules Verne. In the city I lived there was a nice library and
every week on Thursday, together with our teacher Mrs Nicole
the whole class (36 students) walked to the library. The smell of
the books, quiet, and the cozy clay tiles covered fireplace add more
curiosity to the children. I have improved my writing but my
organization has been my problem, and even though I have
made progress. I still believe I have not fully succeeded, in
this area but I'm going to improve in it. The process of using
multiple drafts has improved me to over look on my mistakes.
After I wrote my paragraphs I went back and forth and read
two or three times, and asked my daughter to revise my paper.
The most valuable lesson I have learned about the writing process is
mostly editing and revising drafts to lead to a perfect final paper.
To be able to write on a college level, I'm willing to let other
people revise my paper;in this way I can improve myself as
a writer. My favorite assignment was the Literacy Narrative
writing because it was something I have never done before.
I found that describing the scene in different circumstances
was difficult, because I have to present a series of stories. I
believe that I have accomplished this task. Using writing
process techniques has made a change in my writing. I can
say something I previously said and transfer it to my writing.
Like before I didn't use much techniques and how I do under-
stand and put more effort to make a meaning.
In Elbow's writing, he says, " The most effective way I know
to improve your writing is to do free writing exercises regularly"
(62). Because I am not one to write in a journal everyday, I
can't personally agree or disagree with this comment. I do believe
that the more you write the better you become. I do see that
people who write often also do better in class. Elbow also says,
"The main thing is that a free writing must never be evaluated
in any way; in fact there must be no discussion at all"(63).
I don't agree with him. The only way for someone to improve
writing is if a peer reads over it and explains what could be done
to improve it. I think in synthetic plan, what else could be done
to prove English writing? When we use math formulas in algebra
we substitute numbers in order as the formula say, the same
techniques it's possible in English language. What the key that
helped me to succeed in English watching TV , movies, shows,
news. It was very helpful for English comprehension, listening.
Practice speaking English in the church, to the friends, shopping and
what interesting I wasn't afraid at all. The more I speak in English,
the easier I learned it.Some people do not like to speak in public
because they are fearful about their accent. The fear of talking
with another person is the principalbarrier to learning anything.
After I finished read my book a lot new words I put in my notebook,
then memorized them by writing up to ten times each word,
made sentences with them. Soon it pup-up when I meet these
words. Then I wrote my first poems to my mother, friends and
children dedicated to their Birthdays, New Year, Mothers day
we celebrated. I teach preschool children, they are Russian
heritage and parents interested to teach them in both languages,
cultures, traditions skills. When I read stories sometime in Russian
simultaneously interpretation in English or the opposite way, yes
it is not easy. However it is enjoyable to
see how the children absorb all the information like a sponges.
I see myself more as a writer for the children then for adults.
Why? The reason is that I more familiar with children psychology,
interests, core curriculum for certain group of age, how they learn
and what they like to listen. The adult publication it's more
complicated because it hurt sometime our feelings and I do
accept criticism the only if this explicit right and professionally.
American culture and style is different from European and I do
not have enough courage to do so. If I write something it would
be children story, but not that is not in style or old fashion.
" Writers must learn to be their own worst enemy" ( Murray 4).
He is trying to say that when it comes to editing you must be
able to accept criticism from others and make every effort.
Revisiting and rewriting a paper is a common step in the
writing process.I wasted a lot of paper after I revised and rewrit-
ten an essay.I think Shakespeare didn't write "Romeo and
Juliet" in one shot. Writing is up to the writer, I have to be in
good mood and some topic to write about it. If I decide to follow
the formal writing process, then that's my choice.
Nothing should be forced when it comes to writing. The writing
process is something that changes from person to person.
Learning a new language is generally enjoyable but at the same
time it requires a lot effort, time and study. No doubt it would
seem rather hard at the beginning, to write ten times each word
in my notebook, I saved three of them, but when practice it for
period of time I find it more natural and easy to use the language.
In the class when I'm confused, what do I have to write about
and how, I go back to the blog and read my peers blogs it gives
me an idea what it should be. Last but not least, one should take
an optimistic attitude toward English learning, in most cases, the
only quality is just some patience. Patience and joy of the every
progress and the happiness that learning English has brought to me.

the many steps that are involved in the writing process from free writing, like

my first draft, to making a final copy. In order to make a good paper I need to

organize my ideas. Also, realize what needs to be in the essay and what doesn't.

I have improved my writing but my organization has been my problem, and

even though I have made progress. I still believe I have not fully succeeded, in

this area but I'm going to improve in it. The process of using multiple drafts

has improved me to over look on my mistakes. After I wrote my paragraphs I went

back and forth and read two or three times, and asked my daughter to revise my

paper. The most valuable lesson I have learned about the writing process is

mostly editing and revising drafts to lead to a perfect final paper. To be able

to write on a college level, I'm going to let other people revise my paper.

Then I can improve myself as a writer. Sure enough, help from others for me to be

able to succeed in English 2020. My favorite assignment was the Literacy

Narrative writing because it was something I have never done before. I found

that describing the scene in different circumstances was difficult, because I

have to present a series of stories. I believe that I have accomplished this

task. Using writing process techniques has made a change in my writing

because I can say something I said before and transfer it to my writing. Like

before I didn't use much techniques and how I do understand and put more effort

to make a meaning.

In Elbow's writing, he says, " The most effective way I know to improve

your writing is to do free writing exercises regularly" (62). Because I am

not one to write in a journal everyday, I can't personally agree or disagree with

this comment. I do believe that the more you write the better you

become. I do see that people who write often also do better in class.

Elbow also says, "The main thing is that a freewriting must never be

evaluated in any way; in fact there must be no discussion at

all"(63). I don't agree with him. The only way for someone to improve writing is

if a peer reads over it and explains what could be done to improve

it.

Revisiting and rewriting a paper is a common step in the writing process.

I wasted a lot of paper after I revised and rewritten an essay. I

think Shakespeare didn't write "Romeo & Juliet" in one shot.

Writing is up to the writer, I have to have good mood and some topic to write

about it. If I decide to follow the formal writing process,

then that's my choice. Nothing should be forced when it comes to

writing. The writing processes is something that changes from person to

person. " Writers must learn to be their own worst enemy" (Murray

4). He is trying to say that when it comes to editing you must be able to accept

criticism from others and be suspicious of it.

After reading my literacy narrative comments, by Dr. Chandler, there were many good suggestions and helpful. I read my essay, it was like a picture in my mind, from the past time, and I still remember until today.
Then I just simply added two paragraphs in the beginning and the third paragraph in the end. When it was finished I reread it and I saw the differences in my essay, how things relate to one another and how they look like without it and also my growth in the writing.
My focus was about today, it seems like the autobiography of my life. I organized everything in the order, like I made a braid and tied a bow in the end so that make sense to me who I was before and who I am today.

The first steps to write for a specific topic is :

1. Pre-writing: researching and thinking about content, purpose of document.

2. Drafting: planning and getting pre-writing into text format

3. Revisiting and Editing: reviewing, getting opinions, clarifying, attending to readability

4. Proofreading: checking for correctness and conformity to discourse conventions.

Freewriting is a useful tool for procrastinators that kind I think I'm. The
idea is to begin, write on the paper, then write whatever comes to mind next. I
keep following the thoughts, then stop to check and make some correction, sometime
its like you off the track, but I'm not stoppable. From the fresh minds explo-
ratory writing the next stage is to seek out and a focus of theme in the writing.
" It is the moment when what was chaos is now seen as having a center of gravity.
There is a shape where a moment ago there was none" (p.35).Elbow cations that
centers of gravity, which located by effort to sum-up what have been written, are
difficult to describe and require practice to locate. But in freewriting, the
idea is to "let the early ones be terrible." (p.36)The point is, even if I have
to exaggerate. Judiciousness is not the quality I want to govern this part of
literacy narrative writing.

Literacy draft.
This semester I feel I have to work very hard as a teacher, a mother and

especially as a writer. My first essay I'm going to write about "What's new about new

literacy narratives?" Truthfully I have never had good experiences with writing, so I

think it will be very hard to relate to the topic, but I will do my best to get an

average grade.

I can't contemplate my career as a teacher without reflecting on my years in

school and experiences in my life. After my family came to the United States, I made

a resolution for myself to continuing studying English language, American history,

culture. Adjustment to our new home was difficult at first, even at this time I was

able to talk, write and read a portion of it. It's like starting your life all over again, and

continue a new life based on your experiences and successes. Dear reader I want

to tell you one story that had happend to me. This was a good lesson and I remember

until this day.

It was the first day of winter break, senior year, I was so excited for the free-

dom. No school for almost two weeks. However the beginning of winter break

means report cards. My grades were average except for one, English, which I did

horribly. I don't know what happened. The class is just too hard so I received my

first unacceptable F ( "2"- the lowest grade, at this time, in the school system ).

I remember sitting in the living room waiting for the mail to arrive. As soon as

I heard the mailbox close I was at the door. The mail man didn't even make it down

the stairs before I saw it. My report card was right on top.

I had planned to take the report card and put it in my room until the end of the

vacation, but mom found every reason imaginable to look through my room. I could

never hide anything in there. So I had to tell them but how? Thinking about mom in

my room gave me an idea. If I could go up in the attic and find one of their old re-

port cards with a bad grade on it I could avoid the long speech about it ruining my

future.

Upstairs was a disaster. I found box after box of old toys and pictures but

nothing I could use, until I went in the closet. There I found all sorts of pictures and

little kid projects. Then I came across a smaller box that was filled with things they

saved that I did. Feeling a little nostalgic I browsed through my old papers. It wasn't

until I got to this letter that I remembered why I was upstairs in the first place.

It was in 4th grade when I started learning English language (til my senior year)

The class that I attended had thirty students, divided into two groups, helf of the

students took German and the other helf took English.I took part that studied English.

Mrs.Tamara a teacher of the English class was extra exceptional teacher with all rules

and expectations. I appreciate for all hard work of writing, reading comprehension

that she accomplished with us. At this moment I couldn't immagine that, how much

reading and writing was important to me. I couldn't realize myself going to the

United States where my grandparents lived.

Dear Dad,

Hey Dad did you notice something different? I am writing this letter

all by myself. That's right no, more letters from me in Mom's handwriting. In fact,

that is why it's been so long since I wrote you I wanted to surprise you with a

super good letter. Yeah I have been really busy learning to read and write. What

an adventure that was! I always see you and Mom reading, so when Mrs. Tamara

told us that we were going to learn I was so excited.

Man, it was hard work, you guys make it look so easy, just stare at a page

for a minute and boom you're done. The only time Mom has a confused face is

when she opens the bills, that reading must be really hard, I never want to have

to read a bill. I had a trouble because there is like a billion words, and those silent

K's and short a's all those rules! Lots of time I know what a word means but seeing

it is much different then hearing it, so Mom helped me every time I didn't know a

word she told me to circle it, and we looked it up in the dictionary. A dictionary

is the best thing ever, it has every word ever and it has pronunciations. That really

helps with the words that don't sound how their spelled. By that you can tell I am

not a very good speller, I mean why should it matter if you get it and I get it

what's the harm in dropping a few silent letters?

I finally got that reading thing down, I read every Bernstein Bear book out

there. Then I felt like I was back where I started when she introduced writing. I

was very eager to write so I could write you letters and you know how I love

to tell stories, Mom always says I talk a mile a minute; I couldn't wait to write a

mile a minute. First Mrs. Tamara made us copy words that was a piece of cake, I

know how to write all 26 letters putting them together was easy, of course my

handwriting is not as neat as yours but she said "practice makes perfect."

As soon we got done with writing words I thought that writing would be

just like talking but on the paper. Oh boy, I was wrong, turns out there is sentence

structure and parts to sentences! At first it was confusing I just didn't understand

verbs. If I can eat food isn't food a verb because you can eat it? But its not it's the

subject. I learned so much I thought my head would explode because my brain

was so big, mom says it never happens but I don't believe her.In fact, I measured

and my head got a half inch bigger.I'll keep measuring. Gotta go cant wait til you

come home.

After I read this letter I picked everything up and gave up on my mission to

expose my parents' bad report cards. I changed my mind because reading that old

letter reminded me what was really important. I realized how hard all those things

seemed so many years ago. I couldn't write a single sentence and now I had comp-

leted essay for the English class. I just have to want to learn as much as I did in the

past.

As a teacher today I'm experiencing what I teach my little ones is still relevant

and if the way I'm teaching it is engaging. My focus is to bringing out the true learner

in my students. Because within their lifetimes, their ability to learn will surpass their

need to know. I'm the most fortunate of all,who I am today. Each day, parents entrust

me with their greatest gift, their children. As a teacher, I have a past that is rich in me-

mory; a present that is rewarding, adventurous fun and challenging because I spend

my days with the future.

So I decided to tell my parents the truth with no catches, or excuses. If I told

Mom and Dad I am going to do better in a sincere apology they will believe me and

not punish me for my entire winter break.

It was inevitable my parents were going to get angry; however in the end I felt

better because I was no longer frustrated with my English class or school in any

matter. Since I knew reading and writing were mandatory abilities, I was determined

to master those skills. Now I look at each challenge and consider the accomplishment

as a mandatory part of my future.

Writing without teachers by Peter Elbow it's approach and practice program for learning how to write. This approach turns to the focus towards encouraging ways of developing knowledge, inspiration through free writing, drafts and notes. Elbov's program influence his techniques have had on writers. This valuable guide will benefit anyone, even who hasn't talent of writing.
Peter Elbow book is very helpful for people who got stuck in their writing for essays, poems etc.
His assumption about writing: 1) to help actually generate words; 2) to help improve ability to make own judgment.
Elbow does not try to define or even describe good and bad writing but rather tries to find ways to get us to better understand the good and bad writing we see all around us,to become more attention to the problems to be found in our own writing. The first and most basic step to improved writing is free writing. Free writing means simply that for fifteen minutes to write without stopping. The idea is not to produce a polished, or even"good" piece of writing, but to simply get in the habit of writing without censoring and editing. In free writing, "never stop to look back,to cross something out,to wonder how to spell something, to wonder what word or thought to use, or to think about what you are doing." The only rule to follow in free writing is to simply not stop writing.

1) What did I learned about writing from the reading that is a human procrastinating and biologically set up, and speech compliment.
2) Writing is an expression of ourselves, the way we think, we talk and write about it, that
carries the function of intellectual inquiry. Writing developing social skills, language, math, etc. The cognitive skills involved in writing are intimately tied up with the type of text. Non literate or literate modes of thought are basically distinguished by differential experience with the production and consumption of essay text.

What is important to keep in mind is Ong's argument here. At minimum, I think Ong is pretty clearly- and in compelling ways- suggesting that oral and literate cultures are quite radically different from each other. And while I don't think he would make this claim directly, I think Ong is implying that literate cultures are "better". After all, it is through literacy that we get things like "study", a clearer sense of history, complex civic and arrangements, etc.
Ong talks about issue in great detail in "part II" of this essay, which begins on page 21. Essentially, Ong says that Plato's complaint about the technology of writing is very much modern
complaint, how spellcheckers are making us worse spellers, how calculators make us worse at math, how video games and television make it so kids don't read, etc.
So what Ong is saying is this:when we talk about how everything is going worse because of a technology ( word processing, internet ...),that's exactly like Socrates saying way back when that
everything is going to hell because of literacy. And, what Ong says, nothing could possibly be further from the case.

The influence of written language is one of the first and important facts that comes while reading. When we read we get some points, making conclusions, rethinking over and over about characters and their acts, answering relevant questions. We learn how to write and express ourselves.
From biological-linguistic perspectives we learn the way people communicate, write and about their cultures. From social linguistic perspectives a process of the writing as a great way to communicate, represent nation and individually.

This article by Aaron and Joshi start back of early writing hieroglyphic period. Through a great stories, examples, observation in different times of our ancestors start our destiny. I found this story interesting because without the past time there is no future. The important part of the article is how the people invent the alphabet it didn't come by itself, it took a long time and still continuing for perfection.
I just couldn't imagine my life without written books, newspapers, magazines.
